In Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay on "Self-Reliance," he writes, "Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string." What do you think he means and how does this relate to being a self-reliant individual? What does it truly mean to "trust thyself"? How does a person learn to trust? Emerson also writes, "Insist on yourself; never imitate." Do you agree or disagree with this statement and why?

i believe that every heart or soul is capable to trust themselves but few do. self reliant is not being centered on friends, materials, or other things but yourself. you accept your responsibilities and do them. to trust yourself means to have self confidence but many people have fear of being let down or worse put down. Many people learn to trust by "just going for it" (Or at least thats how i learned it:) ) and having confidence in what you do. the quote "Insist on yourself; never imitate." means to always be original and to "travel the path less traveled." in which i do agree with because that is how change is made when someone decides for themselves what THEY want to do and follow.

Every human has the power in trusting themselves but many choose to go with they're fears. In order for you to trust in yourself you have to learn to trust in others first."Insist on yourself; never imitate." I Strongly agree with this statement because you should always be yourself not who others want you to be . I Once knew a person who always imitated on other people because she wasn't happy with her self,but she learned that being like other people doesnt bring you happiness it just brings your self confidece down more. "NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER"

Truting yourself may be the key to any succesful person. Without confidence in yourself how can you say you will accomplish anything. Another part of it means to also be comfortable with the person you are as you yourself! so in the first quote it means to ave faith in yourself. You cant get anywhere without it. The second quote to put in simpler terms would mean... Just be yourself.
